I've always enjoyed writing, and started a few blogs in my life but always kept them private, I suppose either I didn't feel like it was worth other people reading, it was too personal or it was meant for certain people (I wrote blogs for my two children to read when they are older, and then switched to written emails to them, who has time for baby books!). Over the last few weeks the world has changed and it will be changing very much over the next year or more. I thought I would write my perspective-it will be different then yours, but I hope relevant to someone. I'm hoping one day maybe when my kids learn about this in history class, or perhaps their kids, they can read from different perspectives all around the world rather then just the news articles. For me it doesn't matter how it got here, because it is here. What matters is how we handle it and how we handle ourselves.
So who am I? Why does my perspective matter? We all matter. We need to know that. We are all important and we are all pieces of this puzzle. Some of us will feel the impact right away, others will feel it later. some might be in between. I fall somewhere in the middle, or at least it seems that way for now.
I am a mom of two. These two have pretty much been my life the last 4.5 years. When I had my daughter in 2015 I knew (well decided with my husband) that I would take more then just the one year off (here in Ontario if you have worked a certain amount of hours within one year you get up to 18 months paid time off-generally it is only about half your pay depending on your job, but it is a big perk compared to other countries). I really appreciated that time to really watch her grow, not to mention the lack of sleep in those first few months-in my case good year-does not make for a good employee. At about 7 months old we decided to move from a big town that was far too expensive to a smaller big town. My husband got a new job pretty easily and we were moving somewhere that we at least knew family and a few friends from when I grew up. At about two years old I started working part time evenings and weekends to help with the expenses and a few months into that I found out we were pregnant with our second. After he was born we bit the bullet and bought a house in the country. About a year later my husband took a leap and started working from home with our own business. Since my older was now in school and the baby more manageable at 18 months I started a home daycare in February 2020. Then just before March Break the world started changing...
COVID-19
So my perspective, in case it wasn't clear: A stay at home mom, husband already working from home, in the country somewhat secluded. So how did my life change once the pandemic was announced? More then you know.
